LAHORE: Last chapter of English debates at Inter, Degree and Postgraduate levels were held in connection with the Chief Minister Debate Competitions at provincial level 2015-2016 at Govt Islamia College (GIC) Civil Lines in its seminar hall on Friday. College Principal Prof Muhammad Talat Dar chaired the session.


Students belonging to colleges across the Punjab took part in the debate contest and highlighted their arguments in an enthusiastic manner.


The topic for the debate at Postgraduate level was, “The greatest glory lies not in never falling but in rising every time you fall.” The position holders were Irtaza Rauf from Govt Postgraduate College Sahiwal achieved first position, Hafiz Muhammad Raees from Govt Postgraduate College Jhelum got second position and Muhammad Rizwan from Govt Emerson College Multan got third position. The principal drew attention of the students to the importance of debates. He also appreciated the vision of the Punjab chief minister.

Chief Minister’s Essay Writing Competition, 2016 (Provincial Level) in Urdu and English were held at Government College of Home Economics, Gulberg, Lahore on 26th of January to 27th of January, 2016 respectively.


On this occasion, Principal Prof Dr Samia Kalsoom, Assistant Director Education Anwer Malik and Dr Tahira Sikander Principal Jinnah Degree College were also present. Students, including intermediate, degree and postgraduate level took part in the contest. The winner of the divisional level participated at the provincial level, which were 25 in number.

In provincial level Urdu contest, Saba Irshad, GCW Pakpattan got first position, Syeda Arooj, GCW Chenab Nagar got second position, and Maria Arshad, GDCW Dahranwala got third position.

At degree level, Fareeha Jalil of Jinnah Degree College Mozang, Lahore got first position, Asma Bibi of GDCW Harappa, Sahiwal got second position, and Aqsa Abdul Razzaq of GCN Fazilpur got third position.

At postgraduate level, Maleha Ashraf of GPGC Samanabad, Faisalabad got first position, Arshia Charagh of GPGCW Satellite Town, Gujranwala got second position, and Umme Habiba of Talagang got third position.

In English essay writing contest, students worked on the topic of “The Role of Women in the Progress of Country” at intermediate level, “Education – A Weapon against Terrorism” at degree level, and “Pakistan-China Economic Corridor – A ray of hope in the valley of despair” at postgraduate level.

At provincial level, in English contest of intermediate level, Fatima Muzaffar of Government Degree College for Women Okara 1, got first position, Shafaq Mehboob of Government Degree College for Women, Haroonabad got second position, Tayyaba Noor of Government College for Women, Jhelum, got third position.

At degree level, Irum Khalid of Government Degree College, Satellite Town Rawalpindi, got first position, Sayeda Sarosh of Government Emerson College Multan, got second position, and Mahnoor Javaid of Government PGCW Mandi Bahuddin, got third position.

At postgraduate level, Warda Mehreen of Government PG College (w) Khanewal, got first position, Saira Rauf of Government PG Islamia College Cooper Road, Lahore, got second position, and Sidra Moeez of Government PG College Sahiwal, got third position.

We Congratulate Sayeda Sarosh from Govt. Emerson College, Multan for getting 2nd position in Chief Minister’s Essay Writing Competition, 2016 (Provincial Level) at degree level. :)

The Punjab government has decided to launch "Chief Minister's Talent Scholarship Programme"

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting, here today, which reviewed the programme of sending boy and girl students to China for attending courses in Chinese language.

Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said the in the first phase, Punjab government will send three hundred boys and girl students to China at its own expenses for learning Chinese language. He said that in accordance with the policy of Punjab government, these students will be selected purely on merit and they will attend a two years’ course of translator.

He said that like other programmes of Punjab government, ten percent extra quota has been allocated for boy and girl students of south Punjab in this programme. He said that students of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir will also be included in this programme.

Shahbaz Sharif directed that best universities of China should be selected for learning Chinese language and necessary steps should be taken at the earliest for implementation of this programme. He said that Punjab government will send three hundred students to China on scholarship while in the second phase, three hundred more students will be send for learning Chinese language.

The Chief Minister said that the growing economic and trade relations between China and Pakistan demand that Pakistani students should learn Chinese language as it has become an international language. Secretary Higher Education gave a briefing to the meeting on the programme of sending students to China for learning Chinese language.

Provincial Ministers Rana Mashhood Ahmad, Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal, Secretaries of Information, Labour, Planning & Development besides senior officers of concerned departments attended the meeting.

Chief Minister's Talent Scholarship Programme Application Form

Meanwhile; Punjab government has decided to launch “Chief Minister’s Talent Scholarship Programme” under which eligible boy and girl students of government universities will be given scholarships for higher education at the best universities of the world. Under this programme, one hundred students will get scholarships for studying at one hundred top universities at international level.

It was decided in a high level meeting presided over by Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, here today.

Moreover, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting of steering committee set up for elimination of child labour at brick kilns, here today.

The Chief Minister gave approval to a special package for the education of children working at brick kilns. Under the package besides 100 percent free education, a special stipend of one thousand rupees per month will be given to every child going to school whereas an annual stipend of two thousand rupees will be given to the parents on admission of children in schools. Free treatment facilities will also be provided to the children and their parents. The government will also bear transport expenses of the children going to far-flung schools.
