Free education for kids of Kiln workers launched

The Punjab Education Foundation has launched a project for the education of brick-kiln workers in the districts of Multan, Muzaffargarh and Lodhran. This project will be run under New School Programme (NSP).
According to a PEF spokesman, the project will be run through partner NGOs who will open primary schools in the targeted areas to provide free education to children of brick-kiln workers and other low-income families of the area. Free textbooks will be provided to the students while PEF will give monthly grant Rs 550 per student at primary level to the school partners.
This project is aimed to help the needy communities to send their children to schools without being burdened. NSP was launched in 2008 to allure private sector entrepreneurs to set up schools in distant and remote areas of the province where private or government schools are scarce or absent altogether, the spokesman added.
Meanwhile, MD-designate of Punjab Education Foundation Tariq Mahmood Wednesday visited the head office and held an informal meeting with the programme heads. PEF Chairman Engr Qamar-ul-Islam Raja formally welcomed Tariq Mahmood and hoped that his presence would further advance the core mission of education-promotion in the low-income families.
