Universities to conduct their own entrance exam for admissions
Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Wednesday asked the universities to restore their old system of testing for the grant of admissions at higher education level.
The universities are under no obligation to organise Graduate Assessment Test (GAT) through private testing service for offering admissions in Mphil and Phd classes, HEC spokesman said.
He said that HEC has directed all universities to conduct their own entrance exam (GAT) or other tests rather than conducting through National Testing service (NTS) for offering admissions in higher education. HEC spokesman categorically stated that students of different private universities are in no way required to pass test by any other organisation than the institution itself. Many students of different private universities are expressing confusions that HEC has been asking the universities to qualify GAT conducted by NTS. The spokesman further said that after court’s order, it is not binding on universities to conduct admission test for Mphil and Phd through NTS. However, he said that the commission will continue to hold tests for awarding scholarships out of HEC grants to the applicants. Lahore High Court (LHC) in a judgment back in March 2014 had declared NTS test illegal whereby asking HEC to ensure that no more tests will be conducted by any private firm until it is constituted through proper legislation.
